Laxmii is a 2020 Indian Hindi-language comedy horror film written and directed by Raghava Lawrence in his Hindi directorial debut. It is a remake of the 2011 Tamil film Kanchana and stars Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani.[2] Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film will be released in cinemas with the selected overseas markets in India[3] and was stream digitally on Disney+Hotstar on 9 November 2020.[1]

The film, a remake of Kanchana, was announced in the second half of January 2019 by the director of its original version i.e. Raghava Lawrence with Akshay Kumar in lead role.[10] Principal photography began on 22 April 2019 with the shoot of song "Bismillah".In January 2020, the starcast filmed song "Burj Khalifa" in Dubai.[11] The filming was wrapped up on 1 March 2020.[12]

Laxmii was scheduled to be released on 22 May 2020,[13] but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[14]

On 29 June 2020, Disney+ Hotstar conducted virtual press conference where Akshay Kumar announced that the film will release on Disney+ Hotstar exclusively as part of Disney+ Hotstar Multiplex initiative which was a result of theatre shut down due to COVID-19 pandemic.[15] However, it was later decided to release the film in countries where theatres re-opened such as United Arab Emirates, Australia and New Zealand.[16]

On 29 October 2020, the film's title was altered due to legal notice sent to the filmmakers on behalf of Shri Rajput Karni Sena. According to the notice, the film's title was considered to be disrespectful to Goddess Laxmi, thereby hurting Hindu community's sentiments. The notice also demanded a change in the film's title and said that the current one sends out a wrong message to the society. Initially titled Laxmmi Bomb, it will now be released as Laxmii.[17][18][19]

The film was released globally on 9 November, near to Diwali.[1][20]

The film's music was composed by Tanishk Bagchi, Shashi–DJ Khushi, Anup Kumar and Ullumanati while lyrics written by Vaibhav Shrivastava, Vayu, Gagan Ahuja, Farhad Samji, Anup Kumar and Ullumanati.
